Classes & Workshops

Indy Actors Academy

Indy Actors Academy is transitioning from a weekly Indiana-based class to an Atlanta-based class with additional workshops and seminars being scheduled around both the Southeast and Midwest markets, including Indiana.

Indy Actors Academy's mission is to help the actor develop their craft, experience, and show business strategy for working in the local market as well as surrounding markets.

The class is led by Professional Actor Jim Dougherty.

“I've been in class for about a year now. Since joining the class, I've been on national TV and landed my first speaking role in a SAG film. Thank you Jim, Mark, and John, and thank you to everyone in IAA. “
-Brett Hopkins

“I had a very emotional scene to do last night for this short film I'm in. I even had to die. I totally used what I learned in class for this shoot! I really felt more prepared because of what I learned from Indy Actors Academy. THANK YOU JIM! “
-Dija Henry

“Bummed that I missed class last week, but at least it was for good reason. I've been in IL 6 out of the past 9 days appearing in a recurring role for a feature film. “
-Eric Bell

“IAA has a well rounded curriculum for the serious actor looking to improve their craft. Studies vary month to month covering stunts, monologues, scene studies, character development, marketing and production. The instructors are knowledgeable in all areas of the entertainment industry offering advice whenever a student has a question. This is truly a unique program. “
-Sunday Behrens Ruiz

“I originally came to Indy Actors Academy in support of my daughter who was starting her acting career. By the end of the first class, I was hooked myself. It was fun and exciting to see everyday folks like me transform themselves into the characters they were portraying. The instructors are so talented and knowledgeable, and they make learning the ins and outs of the business a blast. I've learned so much in just these last couple of months. I'm honored to be a part of this group where everyone is encouraging, honest, supportive and so passionate. “
-Tammy Reid-Benedict

Three Taylor graduates who have achieved success in the film industry will be featured: Ben Eisner, an established commercial and music video director; Katy Andres, a NYC-based nature and wildlife documentary editor; and Jonathan Friday, a creative designer at Walt Disney Imagineering. The three will present projects from their student years as well as professional efforts on March 2 at 7:00 p.m., in the Cornwall Auditorium at the LaRita Boren Campus Center. Friday is a multidisciplinary creative designer at Walt Disney Imagineering. Currently focused on development at the Tokyo Disney Resort, he has specialized in “blue sky” concept ideation and franchise management, also contributing to media-based attractions including Soarin’ Around the World and Thea Award-winning Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. Friday has also freelanced as a writer of faith-based children’s media. He lives in Burbank, California.

Eisner is an established commercial director for such global brands as Harley Davidson, GE, Verizon Wireless, Oscar Meyer, and Wilson Sporting Goods. He has extensive experience working as a director of photography and editor. Eisner has also directed music videos, television pilots, and documentary projects for music companies including Capitol Records, Warner Brothers, Sony BMG, and EMI Music Group. He is preparing to direct The Divine Comedy of Thomas Merton, a feature film written by Eisner and produced by Mike S. Ryan of Greyshack Films.

The year’s best in Taylor student filmmaking will be presented at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 3 in the Rediger Chapel/Auditorium. Films will include narrative short films, nonfiction video, music video and experimental film trailers. Tickets are available at the door for $5.00.

Events continue through Saturday, March 4, when the work of high school filmmakers will be shown at the home of Taylor President Lowell Haines with opportunities for high school filmmakers to hear feedback on their work from the festival guests.
